Season 2 Episode 9 - This. Is. Kickstarter

January 23rd, 2013

Rabblebytes returns after the holidays with a fully funded kickstarter and much to talk about.

We kick off the show by talking about our 2012 and what we are hoping for in 2013.  We talk New Years Resolutions and where we hope to be creatively by the end of the year.  What about you?  Have a great resolution?  Let us know in the comments.

Kickstarter tips and tricks:

Nami’s suggested time line

Product research: 1 month! start idealized (everything under the sun!) you need to know the cost for what you need to launch your project, sift through the “needs” VS “ideals” and remember stretch goals!

Setting up the Kickstarter: 1 month! Spend this time talking about the KS. Get a few test subject to read your goals, check your math.

LAUNCH! suggestions: 30 days, and some tips nami has for looking at ‘end date’  Paydays, keep that in mind so fridays/middle/end of month.

We go over all this and more in the episode but this is a good starting outline.

We want to thank everyone who helped and supported the Jazu kickstarter and let you know that we will continue to chronicle the project here and at Jazu's official site Jazu.thewebcomic.com.  From your love and support in donations to people spreading the word through twitter, tumblr, facebook and even in fanart, we can't say thank you enough.

Season 2 Episode 7 - Mad Elk Disease

November 27th, 2012

Hello and welcome back to Rabblebytes!

This week we get all caught up on life.  Jaysen is swimming away from Hurricane Sandy and Nami is worried about coffee going extinct.  We talk all about some new video games that have come out as well as the state of New York City in the aftermath.

Pony Rabble - The season premiere for Season 3 of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic has finally aired.  Join us for this portion as we get down and dirty with the episode and talk about what we liked and didn't like and what we think is coming soon in the Ponyverse.  We also talk a little bit about the Pony fandom and our concerns for them in the future of the series.

This week we talk all about how to deal with the stress of life when everything comes to a head and the world seems against you.  We talk priorities and how to really put things into perspective when life gets difficult and puts you in a tough spot.  How can you decide what's important?  How do you process horrible situations without letting them ruin your day?  How do you manage to do work and be creative when life hands you lemons?  We break all this down in a surprisingly inspirational episode of Rabblebytes.

Our This or That this week is more of a What the What???  Have you found porn in the woods?  HAVE YOU?  Let us know your porn in the woods stories and we just might share them on the show.

Our Anniversary is coming up and we need YOUR questions.  Tweet at either of us OR even #Rabblebytes so that we can grab all those questions.  Guest and moderator Tony Cosens will be hosting and getting down to business with us and how this past year has been.  A date for this episode will be announced VERY SOON so follow us on twitter!

Season 2 Episode 6 - Do You Even Read This Title?

October 26th, 2012

Hello and welcome back!

Pony Rabble: November 10th! (lol everyone already knows) YAY

This week, we talk about conflict! When writing your story or novel, you will need conflict to make it more interesting. Here are some different types of conflict that you can use:

External Conflict is a struggle with some force outside the character

Internal Conflict is a struggle with the character's own personality, a mental struggle to overcome his or her own bad habits, to make a tough decision, to handle hardship, or some other difficult internal battle.

  • Once you decide which of these types of conflict you want to use - or both! - you can move on to thinking about several general categories:
  • Man vs. Circumstances (the classical struggle) - the characters struggle to overcome outside circumstances in their lives, fate, destiny, etc.
  • Man vs. Himself (the psychological struggle) - the characters struggle to overcome their own natures, physical limitations, moral choices, ideas of right vs. wrong, etc.
  • Man vs. Man (the physical struggle) - the characters struggle to overcome a villain of some sort, a force of nature, or animals.
  • Man vs. Society (the social struggle) - the characters struggle against customs and ideas of the culture they live in.

Some Extras:

Man vs Wild Nami vs Jaysen potato vs potato Armageddon vs Apocalypse

This week we fight over the age old debate Plastic VS Paper!

Merchandise, more like Merch-En-Die

October 20th, 2012

Seriously. Merchandising is an important part of getting your product out there. At least Nami thinks so.

So remember:

TEST! Test your merchandise on your audience/crowd. See if this an investment WORTH investing.

RESEARCH! Research your audience/merchandise. Is it more cost effective for you to have someone make it? Or will you all the fabrication on your end?

Postcards Bookmarks and etc.

http://www.overnightprints.com sign up for saaaaaaaaaaales...

BUTTONS:

Badge-a-minit http://www.badgeaminit.com ← these ARE a thing. I would suggest to stay away form them. I have this machine and I have serious issue with it. Their customer support was rude (at least to me.) and all in all their 1 ¼ buttons are a nightmare to make. I have had great success with their 2 ¼ size though.

American Button Machine http://www.americanbuttonmachines.com I have seen these machines in action, and for the smaller button size, I like what you get. MUCH easier than the above system. And they look good. I know some artists offer button commissions so be sure if yhat's an interest to you check your paper grades as for what you can use for paper stock.

CHARMS:

you have your choice of acrylic, or metal or even fancy lazer engraving (Pew Pew)

http://printsess.myshopify.com this is the website I have been referred to.

STICKERS:

NOTE I have not used either of these printers, but these are printers I have scouted. :D so if I end up using them I will let you know...

Shirts, Hats, Scarves... AND PLUSHIES

8| as stated in the pod cast we don’t really have much advice on these things … anything we make we make ourselves, BUT here is a printer I was recommended for shirts...

http://airshipprinting.com/index.html

You are gonna need a bag for all that sweet swag:

http://www.clearbags.com

Don't just take my word for it, talk to other people whose merchandise you like... I mean I do. such as:

http://devilscake.smackjeeves.com Angichan

http://www.genkigirl.com Amy

http://madmousemedia.deviantart.com Mouse of Mad Mouse Media

http://www.theclasscomic.com Jessi (and sometimes Jaysen... sometimes.)

http://www.mokopress.com Robin

http://stewped.com the every wonderful Stew-Ped

the above have been such wonderful help, I cant even begin to thank them. <3
